Reading Notes Ramayana Part A

PDE Ramayana: Vishvamitra. I liked the way that King Dasharatha honored his words and sent the two boys to fight off the rakshasas. I could elaborate on why he didn't want to send to boy a little bit more that what he did. Also could describe the what they were wearing and how the armor, weapond, and jewels looked on them while they were walking away.

PDE Ramayana: Thataka.  Really awesome fighting story with Rama fighting Thataka. I can write about how he was able to beat her with his bow or maybe a sword. She turned invisible after the two boys were able to cut off a few limbs. Write a little bit mote about that fight and how they did it. Then write about how the celestial weapons came in to the story by explaining and describing how beautiful they are. Move forward to the last fight with Maricha and Subahu and explain how they die in your own version. ALOT of room to finish this story how you want it to end.

PDE Ramayana: Rama Wins Sita. Not a lot of context to this story but really like that he had to go into the castle and win Sita by breaking a bow of a God.  I think I could elaborate more on the after effect of breaking a bow that took thousands of people to attempt to beak it until Rama. You can also create a bigger and different environment where there are more people around him in the castle coming to watch him break the bow.

Growth Mindset

I have never heard of Carol Dweck before, so this is the first time I have really of heard about Growth mindset before. I think it is pretty interesting to see that we can actually have different spectrum's  that our minds can sit at as far as growth comes or the willingness to grow. I think I pretty much find myself in the fixed spectrum when it comes to school. I agreed with pretty much all of what she said about how a student reacts after they fail a class or when they get a low grade. In other aspects of my life I think I relate more to a growth mindset especially when it comes to sports. I am a retired college football athlete so in this aspect I see myself as someone who was always willing to learn about new ways to become better in that part of my life.

Starting the Semster

Usually when I start the semester off I like to have all my materials bought and ready to go so that when class starts I'm prepared for the first day. After that I like to go through all my syllabi and make make sure I know when all my test are throughout the semester in my planner. My weekly and monthly planner is what I really try my best on to complete week my week so I know exactly what is due and what I need to get done.

Reading Options

I am going to choose PDE Ramayana online for my my first reading.

The major factors that are going into this option is at this point in the semester I am not to sure how much I want to depend on the library to get the bulk of my reading done at this point. I am a commuter so having to be at the library and hoping that they have the book when I am there doesn't sound all that appealing to me at this point.

After briefly reading a few of the Part A topics they all look to be pretty interesting to me. I love Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythology so I am sure I will love all that is Epics of India

A few things that might be able to fill your curiosity about what connect me to this course is for one I needed the credits for my major requirements. The reason I chose this class is because I love pretty much any kind of mythology so in my mind I feel that I am going to love to read all of these stories. Aside from that I really don't know any information about India's culture or stories so this will be interesting to me.

But yes I love, and I mean LOVE Game of Thrones!!

Storybook Favorites

This was a pretty interesting assignment in my opinion! For the first Storybook I found that really caught my eye was a storybook called Monster Hunter.

In this storybook the topic was obviously about hunting monster which is freaking awesome to me. This was one of the first links that I looked at and right off the bat this storybook pulled me in with a cool looking background picture of an old wooden cabin and a picture of a werewolf! On top of that in every story the author wrote there was a few pictures that expressed the scary nature of how these monster's would have looked like. The introduction of this story is about a man that over his life had experienced a lot of different monsters and just how crazy and scary it was to be around them. He also expressed to his young audience just how bad it would be today if all these monsters were still around today! Overall I was very familiar with all of the monsters he wrote about and that is why I chose to read this storybook. What really interested me the most about it was how well he was able to creature these stories about monsters that everyone knows about and give them a new twist.

The second storybook I likes is called, Greek Game Show.

This storybook is something that I am really interested in which is Greek Mythology. So when I stumbled upon the name of this storybook I knew I would love it.
The introduction of this storybook explained how this whole book was going to be broken up into 4 rounds of the game show. Hermes was the game show host of the 500th annual Mount Olympus Game Show. Each round had a few different rule that were associated with them.  There were two teams that was made up of Greek Gods on both side. The overall design was a little bland. Pretty much the entire thing was black and had a few cool pictures but overall the design was okay.

For the last storybook I picked one that is called, Greek Creatures.

This storybook opened up with some really cool looking pictures of the "Biggest and the Baddest" creatures of Greek mythology. For the introduction of this storybook the author took us to Elysium which is where the Greek hero's meet in the afterlife. Zeus was having all of his son meet him there to finally figure out who fought the biggest and baddest creature of all of them. This storybook took us into the personal story of all the hero's tale of their biggest battle that they one. To myself this was a great storybook because it was able to have each of Zeus's son all talk with each other while they were telling there stories, and to be able to see how they all were able to triumph in there own ways. The design of this was pretty cool in my opinion because the author gave different colors to different people in the story so we could associate that color with the person faster while reading. Along with that there were a lot of interesting picture about each person I had never seen before

Overall this was a really cool assignment and gave me a lot of idea's about how I can become better at writing blogs!

Introduction to a wanna be Chiropractor

Hello my name is Stanton Ropp and I am Junior/Senior at OU. At the moment I don't exactly have a major. I haven't quite figured out if I want to stay at OU and finish with a MDS (Multi Disciplinary Studies) degree of Arts and sciences where I would minor in Health and Exercise and Minor in Sociology, or move on into Chiropractic School. My ultimate goal is to be a Chiropractor someday. I have always loved to pop backs every since I was little. I know it is a little strange for me to say that but hear me out! My dad has always had a pretty bad back from the time I could remember he would have my sister and I walk on his back to pop it. So growing up getting to be able to learn how to pop my dads back was just something cool that I did. Then once I was able to do that I started to pop my friends back and so on and so forth. However, I continue to have the passion to become a Chiropractor because after I pop someones back that has been bothering them or just be able to relieve some presser on them there is always a few moments of bliss that I can see on there face. With that alone just gives me a sense of happiness that I can serve people in that sort of way.

Going into a little more of my personal life I am 22 years old and I live in Newcastle, OK. I have 4 family members my mom, dad, and sister. Their names are Marla, Jeff, and Jensen. Along with 3 horses, 3 dogs, and 2 cats make up my entire immediate family. (Sorry I don't have any pictures at the moment).

Story: Monkey and the looking glass

There once was a monkey named George in a jungle not so far away that stumbled upon a looking glass. Once George picked up this looking glass he was able for the first time to see how his face looked! Amazed and intrigued George went about showing the other animals that were all around him. The Bear named Smokey looked through this looking glass to find out that he had a ugly face. For this Smokey apologized to George that he had to look at his face. George now sad took the the looking glass to the Wolf named Simba that wanted ever so badly to have the beautiful face and horns of a stag. After George let the animals around him see through the looking glass every creature wanted to have the face of others more then their own. Which caused them pain after they realized that their face wasn't the same as the other animal around them in the jungle.

George then meet up with Hedwig the owl to show him the looking glass, but after watching all of the other animals in the jungle look through the glass he wanted no part in looking into it. Hedwig had been watching from a far and noticed how all the animal were sad after looking through the glass that he was sure that looking through it would bring nothing but pain just like all the other animals in the jungle.

George and all the other jungle animals agreed with Hedwig and destroyed the glass, screaming, "Ignorance is bliss!"

A Monkey in a wood somehow got a looking glass, and went about showing it to the animal around him, The Bear looked into it and said he was very sorry he had such an ugly face. The wolf said he would fain have the face of a stag with its beautiful horns. So every beast felt sad that it had not the face of some other in the wood.
The monkey then took it to an owl that had witnessed the whole scene. "no, said the owl, I would not look into it, for I am sure, in this case as in many others, knowledge is but a source of pain."
"You are Quite right," said the beast, and broke the glass to pieces, exclaiming, "Ignorance is bliss!"

Authors Notes. This was my first story like this that I have ever had to write so it is a little rough in my opinion. The bases of this story of mine has the same message as the original text but a bite more personal in the way it comes across. I do however enjoyed this fable because I think it describes our culture very perfectly. How ever person just wants to be like the people they see around them to be able to fit in or fit the stereotypical "perfect look" that most of every one is going after these days.

Bibliography. Story is based off the Indian fables by Ramaswami Raju "Monkey and the looking-glass
